Beautiful Orchha
Orchha, pronounced _Orr-CHA _is home to a huge palace that was only used for one night, officially. It was given as a gift by the local Maharaja to the visiting Mughal emperor who stayed in it for the one night. He died shortly after leaving and so never returned, according to local tradition once the a gift is given it cannot be retrieved and so it sat empty for many years afterwards.
During our stay in Orchha we lucky enough to be upgraded from our lovely tent near the riverside to the opulent Maharani suite within the palace itself which was a pleasant surprise.
We visited a local recycled paper factory run by local women using off-cuts from cotton clothing to create paper. As we left the factory we were bombarded by a mob of Indians wanting to take our picture.
Vandana, a local lady was generous enough to welcome us into her home for a north Indian cooking demonstration, henna session and humble conversation. After which we were able to sample her cooking and take away several of her recipes.
